Progress post on the sketch I posted earlier:

Two exams left.

This time Wednesday, I'll be free until August!

hrrrrrrgh.

Other news:

Is anyone still playing WoW?! yeah, I know. Old news game is old news. But I'm rather enjoying Cataclysm right now. The new starting areas for all the races are pretty damn awesome, especially if you're a nerd like me who loves the storyline in WoW. I made an Undead Hunter and I'm gonna have all his pets be the ghost/zombie animals. It'll be so rad. :]

Also, mohawk tigers. Fuck yeah.

Coraline is an awesome, immensely creepy movie.

I had my first exam today. Property. It was alright. I think I got at least a B, which is average. Not desirable but not bad.

The more work I have, the more I want to draw! This is at its worst (or best?) right around exam time for some reason. huh. Just in the last month alone I did some pretty substantial stuff, by my standards at least.

I might go all-out on this one. See what I can manage to do with a landscapey kind of picture.

I think I want to do a 24-page story over the summer, before school starts again. I have some really good ideas for a comic with Joy and Greyjaw/Celeste in it... I don't think I'd draw the "first episode" of how they end up traveling together, but maybe a side story instead. Something with a lot of comedic dialogue that showcases the characters. Colored if possible, but most likely uncolored. Would anyone be interested in being my colorist? :>

My first exam is a week from tomorrow. Whewwww boy. I think I've got it mostly under control, except for Evidence. And I took the 3 hour version. I can't imagine how freaking ridiculous it would be if I'd taken the 4 hour. The amount of information you're expected to memorize and understand just in the 3 hour version is unrealistic as it is.

more art ¯\(°_0)/¯ WIP this time.

I only have the patience to do easy, static concept art stuff nowadays, but maybe over the summer I'll have time to do something worthwhile. Either way, this was useful because a) planning out relative heights, and b) first colored picture of Joy's mother! yay.

I read an interesting hypothetical for Criminal Law this evening. What do you guys think about this?

Lady Eldon is traveling in France. On her trip she buys very expensive French lace. As they approach customs on the way home, she hides it in a secret pocket so that she does not have to pay duties on it - effectively, she is smuggling. Despite hiding it, the customs officer finds the lace.

Here's the twist. Seeing the lace, the customs official informs her that it is not in fact expensive French lace, but cheap knock-off lace of English manufacturing. Therefore, she has not committed an act of smuggling at all, because that kind of lace is not subject to any duties.

Is she nevertheless guilty of attempted smuggling?

How about this permutation: instead of the lace turning out to be cheap, the law requiring citizens to pay a duty on French lace is repealed - unbeknownst to her. However, she still 100% intended to illegally bring the lace back to Britian without paying a duty on it, and believed she was smuggling during the course of her conduct. But the law actually making it illegal no longer exists. Can she still be convicted of a crime?

Sci-fi stories involving robots created to be indistinguishable from humans don't make any sense to me. Unless that's the whole point in creating them - like to be spies or something, or out of fetishism like Rachael in Blade Runner - why would you ever do that?

Except for the case of Rachael, this is the main retarded plot point in Blade Runner. So you build a robot that's outwardly indistinguishable from a human being that has the processing capability to develop its own personality and emotions, and...... you send it to do slave labor in a mine somewhere? What? Why don't you just put a microchip in a bulldozer if all you're concerned about is getting some rocks out of the ground? Does that make any sense at all? It's like you're asking for a group of modern-day Frankenstein monsters to go crazy and run away.

Maybe the novel gives some legitimate reason for this ludicrous element, but I can't imagine what.

I've been doing lots of art lately. Drawing is fun, I feel like my mind is very active when I'm doing it. Coloring is more like meditating. I put on some music and just pick color, fill, shade, blend, repeat. It's nice.

I also scanned a ton of sketches I did over Christmas break while I was in New Jersey. The first day I was there after the day I flew in, I stayed at Russel's house alone with his dog while he and my mother were off at work, and my sister and brother went skiing. It was nice to have a puppy dog in my lap, and drink tea, and draw next to a window. I'm happiest when I'm doing quiet things.

I guess my motivation to do lots of art right now is because I know this will be the last spare time for it after the next couple of weeks until spring semester is over. I have a couple of sketches from over break that I really want to color, but I decided I really ought to finish some of the ones I did over the fall and never finished.

I think I showed two previous WIPs of this one to you guys earlier; here's my progress on it.

I'm pretty fucking proud of that guitar. It took forever. Also, that is Scrivener - a character that those of you who're actually kinda following the Joy/Celeste stuff haven't seen yet, I think. He's a ghost.

I really want to draw out the comic I have in my head for them, but it probably won't ever happen. I don't even have time to write the thing, much less draw it with the kind of quality I really want to.
